Ada Lovelace was born on December 10, 1852. Throughout her youth, she was privately taught by tutors and self-educated. She began to take interest in Charles Babbage's work, and translated and annotated it to almost 3 times its original length. She is considered the first computer programmer. She is credited with discovering that a computer could follow a series of instructions, or "codes."
